The Flamingo is one of the oldest and most famous gay nightclubs of its kind in the country, having operated from the same site since the beginning of the 1980s until 2006. The original building in which it was housed, overlooking Blackpool North railway station on Talbot Road, was bought by Blackpool Council in 2005 as part of the Talbot Gateway Regeneration for the town. The Flamingo relocated to new larger premises on 27 January 2006.
The new club is located in the former Odeon cinema building on Dickson Road, sharing the building with the world famous Funny Girls. Not far from the original site, alongside a newly-built Flying Handbag pub, the £4 million pound development created a huge and envious state of the art venue, with a 3,200 capacity.
The multi-levelled, multi-million pound venue is a clubbers paradise. The main floor boasts a large dance floor and stage, with 2 bars, two large projection screens and banks of video screens.
Modern bars occupy a further two levels, with relaxed seating areas and unobstructed views of the lower level and stage area.
Level four was originally the projection room, the interior wall overlooking the former cinema being replaced by a glass wall running the entire width of the building. Background music creates a quieter area with relaxed and comfortable seating, restaurant and chill out area.
